Studio Policy

    • To provide a supportive studio environment.

      • Playing an instrument and performing can be incredibly rewarding and joyful. But, I also understand how intimidating it can be. I will provide a positive and supportive studio environment that values musical progress over perfection.

    • To provide support and resources between lessons.

      • Even outside of our lesson times, I am available to help students by providing additional feedback, clarification and resources.

    • To tailor lessons with your goals in mind.

      • Your goals and learning are unique to you, and my goal as a music educator is to help you succeed and grow. I will take the time to get to know each student’s learning style and individual goals. I also welcome student’s bringing in specific materials they want to learn or want extra guidance on.

    • To create a community of clarinet enthusiasts.

      • Music is an incredible vehicle for finding community. In The Clarinerdist Studio, we hold an annual studio recital so students can get to know each other, learn from one another, and engage with the local community.

    • Students agree to arrive at each lesson on-time, well-prepared, and with their required materials (see “Materials” section for details). Daily, quality practice is necessary to ensure consistent musical growth. Please ask questions about home assignments to ensure complete understanding.

Families: If something is happening at home or school that is affecting your child, please let me know. The more information I have, the more sensitive I can be to your child’s needs.

    • Please note that tuition reserves the weekly time slot, but may not directly correlate with lessons received if the student does not attend the scheduled lesson times.

    • Flat monthly tuition rates are calculated based on the number of guaranteed lessons in the calendar year (44), and then split into 12 equal installments.

      • 2 extra, complimentary lessons are built into the studio calendar. In the event of teacher illness, these may be canceled on short notice.

        • If no teacher illnesses occur, these lessons will be offered at no additional cost to you.

      • All payments are non-refundable.

        • Invoices will be sent on the 1st of the month & will reflect your flat-rate installment. The dates of your lessons for the upcoming month will also be listed.

        • Once invoices are sent to you, tuition will be drawn automatically through Stripe from the method on file in your My Music Staff account.

      • If a payment is returned or declined, a 48-hour window will be provided to adjust the payment method and resubmit payment.

      • Any payments not received by the 5th of the month is subject to a $10 late fee.

        • Recurring late payments may result in the termination of the student’s enrollment.

    • Required materials include:

      • Instrument in working condition

        • If you need recommendations for instrument repairs, let me know and I will happily refer you to a technician.

        • Students must have their own instrument to practice at home. If you have questions or would like input on the purchase of an instrument, please let me know. I am happy to set appointments to meet the student and their family for instrument trials and make specific recommendations.

      • 5 playable reeds

        • This means no chips, splits, or mold!

      • Cork Grease

    • Written notice is required by the 15th of the month to end enrollment for the following month.

  • From time to time I use photos and short videos of my students around the studio, on the studio website, or in social media posts.
